LECTORS

The Lector proclaims the Good News of Jesus Christ, making present God to the assembled community.

Is an ancient teaching of the Church that Christ is truly present in his Word that speaks, listens and acts

The willingness to study the scriptures and time to pray with the liturgical readings before each assignment, are the compromises necessary for a Lector.

The degree and type of relationship they establish with the Word is the source of their service.

"Anyone can read the Scriptures in public,

only the  believer can proclaim"

(Rule of St. Benedict)

When the Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself is speaking to his people, and Christ, present in his own word, proclaims the Gospel. Therefore, all must listen with reverence the readings of the Word of God
