What does the Word of God tell us this Sunday?

Fr. Tarcisio

HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER

Today's readings refer to the Feast we celebrate, the Feast of the Holy Family. Jesus was born and raised in a family; there he learned from his father and his mother love, respect, fraternal correction, forgiveness, the value of work, the love of life ... It was not easy for them, they had to emigrate to protect the life of Jesus, worked hard to make a living and face what the families of their time had to live.

The first reading of this Sunday reminds us that two fundamentals of family life are love and respect. Shouldn't these two virtues remain the cornerstone of our families, today? Of course, yes. Following the example of the Holy Family (Jesus, Mary and Joseph) we can strive to make our home a place of respect and love; following also the recommendations of St. Paul to the Colossians: “Put on, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do. And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection.”
