What does the Word of God tell us this Sunday? January 19

Fr. Tarcisio

That my salvation may reach to the ends

of the earth.

Within this context of the week of prayer for the unity of Christians, the prophet Isaiah reminds us that his prophetic mission was not to be destined for a privileged few of the People of Israel, but for all nations: "I will make you a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” That mission is the same one that Jesus will carry out, whose message is also addressed to all nations, because " "He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world."

The Servant of the Lord has a friendly and inclusive mission: to invite all peoples to salvation. It is not about imposing, but about proposing a way of salvation for well-disposed people. We are urged to live the faith with a more dialogic attitude, respecting the identity and cultural identity of each people.

On the first Sundays of this new year, we are invited to listen to the statement of John the Baptist: This is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world; to him is who you must follow and know, and then act like him in everything you do.
