The Covid-19 Pandemic has brought the whole world into an unprecedented situation for many. And Churches have limited worship with the presence of the public. In the midst of this scenario, concern emerges not only for physical health, but also for the spiritual well being of all. In the present circumstances, the desire to receive forgiveness of sins is present. However, the sacrament cannot be accessed, because of the confinement in the homes.
For these times, the Church offers alternate ways to offer spiritual goods. The laws of the Church (canon 960) remembers that there may be a physical or moral impossibility that excuses confession, as it is the current contingency by the pandemic. In this case, reconciliation can be received by other means. Mainly two: 1). General absolution (canon 961). 2). And the perfect contrition (Catechism of the Catholic Church no. 1452; canon 916). In the first case the presence of the priest is required. On the other hand, THE PERFECT CONTRITION DOES NOT REQUIRE THE PRESENCE OF A PRIEST AND ALL MAY HAVE ACCESS TO IT. This involves three elements: 1). repentance for sins; 2). the purpose of amendment, that is, not to sin again; and 3). the sincere purpose of making sacramental confession as soon as possible.
How to do it? In an atmosphere of prayer, open your heart, tell God all that you need forgiveness for, and promise him that as soon as you can you will approach confession when possible; and end with the prayer of the Our Father, in gratitude for the forgiveness received. In the present circumstances, many who wish to be at peace with God and with themselves can use this path to approach God's mercy.
