How can we face Illness and Death?

P. Claudio

Faced with illness and death, we must take care of ourselves, as far as possible, through prevention and prudence, avoiding risks and seeking a healthy and nutritious diet, as well as discipline and physical exercise. Being responsible, going to the doctor and the medicine that he prescribes. All these, and other ordinary means that common sense dictates.

But also, as believers, we can use the spiritual and supernatural means that God gives us. Pray confidently and insistently to our Father God, through the mediation of Jesus Christ and supported by the strength of the Holy Spirit and the intercession of Mary and the Saints so that, if it is his will, he grants us health. In the Gospel we find numerous examples of how to turn to Christ in search of healing and being willing to offer one's own sufferings and unite them with the sufferings of the Lord for the good of the whole Church.

Faith, trust, and abandoning ourselves in the hands of the Father, as Jesus gave us an example, are special graces that we must ask the Holy Spirit to face illnesses and death as the Word of God teaches us: He who believes in Christ, who is the resurrection and the life, even if he dies, he will live!
