LENT: FORTY DAYS ON THE WAY

In the Season of Lent, Christians prepare spiritually for one of the most important events of our faith, THE DEATH AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS.

This time is not for suffering and being sad, but for gradually anticipating the joy of the great Christian feast, which is Easter, the Resurrection, the victory of life over death.

Very often we are immersed in the midst of so many daily problems that it seems that the season of Lent, understood as a time of privations and sacrifices, extends beyond the forty days it should have.

Many Christians live this time intensely, especially Holy Week. We are moved to remember how Jesus humbly washed the feet of his disciples to leave them one of the greatest lessons, that of love of neighbor. It is hard to see him suffering on the way of the cross and to see how he ended his days hanging on a cross, for announcing a message of love, forgiveness and peace.

But we have difficulty in reaching Easter Sunday, we have difficulty in recognizing that his tomb has been left empty, because he has risen.

Let us therefore prepare to walk this Lent towards the great proclamation of life, THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST.
