The Virgin of Guadalupe appeared for the first time on Saturday, December 9, 1531. Juan Diego was going to mass, and as he passed through the Tepeyac hill, he heard a song from heaven. Immediately he saw a shining light and the virgin. She told him that it was her wish to build a temple and also entrusted him to communicate that wish to the bishop. The bishop did not take him seriously, and Juan Diego returned disconsolate. The Blessed Virgin appeared to him again to tell him to come back on Sunday. Juan Diego did so, but the bishop
asked him for a sign to see if indeed it was the Virgin’s will. On Monday, his uncle, Juan Bernardino, became ill and until Tuesday, December 12, Juan Diego was able to go out to look for a priest, when passing again through Tepeyac, the Virgin appeared again and told him not to worry because his uncle had healed.; then she asked him to go up the hill to pick some flowers.
He went to see the bishop, he told him that he was taking the sign he had asked for. At that moment he dropped his cloak and the Image of the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared.
