The desert in the Bible is the place of encounter between God and his people. It is in material
need, relying only on the bare necessities of life, that this consoling presence on the part of God is experienced.
This is how the people of Israel lived it and Moses commands them to faithfully remember that period of their history. Not to forget who has guided them to the promised land. It is there that Jesus also lives a period of purification before beginning his public life. To overcome the dangers he was going to face, with fame, power, miracles... Jesus wants to meet God and discern his divine plan for him.
The season of Lent also invites us to go to the desert, understood as a solitary place, without distractions, to review ourselves, everything we do and how we do it; to discern God’s plan for us. Let us not be afraid and let ourselves be guided by the Spirit, to face our trials, those deceptive ideas and projects that we usually have in life. It is not wasted time; for Jesus himself said: “Man does not live by bread
