The prophets of the people of Israel were those men and women who spoke in the name of God. They interpret their will with authority and lead their people on the paths of justice and peace. Although, in the history of the people of Israel many prophets arose, Moses speaks of a prophet, in singular, whose characteristics will be like those of Moses himself and even more. This prophet is Jesus, the one who with his word and his works has come to show the will of God the Father, a God who saves, who is merciful, who rescues his children from all suffering.
According to the Gospel of Mark, Jesus' first public action was the healing of a man possessed by an evil spirit in the synagogue of Capernaum. It is Saturday and the people are gathered in the synagogue to listen to the Word of God and the explanation given by the scribes. But that day, the voice they heard conveyed something different: authority, power, kindness, compassion ... and that is why they are surprised to hear him.
The man possessed by an unclean spirit, a spirit contrary to God, does not resist anymore and wants to betray him, he wants to ruin his plans, publicly discovering his true identity. But instead, the evil spirit is expelled from that tormented man, dominated by evil. Who will now find space in him to welcome the voice of God. The word of Jesus liberates, it does not enslave; He instills confidence, not fear; he leads the way of good, not evil. Jesus wants to heal us not only physically, but spiritually, from the bottom of our heart.
