5th. Lenten Sunday.
We prepare to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Today's liturgy presents us with the Word of God to illuminate gloomy situations of our existence. We are not alone in the face of these realities. God always accompanies us, because in Him we live, move and have our being. And the same Spirit of God awakens in us, through our faith in Jesus Christ, the confidence that assures us that, whatever happens, our ultimate goal is life.
The priest and prophet Ezekiel lifts the spirits of those who suffered exile in Babylon (First reading). Saint Paul reminds us Christians that we have received the Spirit who gives life and raises us from the mortal prostration into which our selfishness plunges us (Second reading), and Christ declares to us and shows us that He is the resurrection and the life, raising his friend Lazarus (Gospel).
