The passage from the Book of Deuteronomy that we read today presents to us in all simplicity the path of wisdom and intelligence. It is about living in obedience to the Word of God. The wise man is the one who lives always listening to God.
The Letter of James also tells us that true listening to the Word of God consists in obeying it, that is, in putting it into practice. Thus, true worship is that which establishes a concordance between the lips and the heart; that which springs from a heart attached to God and takes pity on those in need.
In the Gospel passage that we read this Sunday, Jesus refers us to our heart, for it is from it that the best and the worst of ourselves spring forth. Jesus gave great importance to the purity of the heart; he even made it the object of a blessing of seeing God eternally and enjoying his glory.
