Reflection of the Word of God, Sunday September 8th, 2024

The prophet Isaiah gives an announcement of blessing to Jerusalem returning from exile. It is a song of joy for the restoration, an integral, material, and spiritual prosperity that causes the prophet to be filled with joy. The restoration includes nature and people afflicted by physical disabilities: the blind, the deaf, and the paralyzed.

The apostle James teaches us that discrimination against the poor is incompatible with the Christian faith. To discriminate is to go against the very will of God because the Creator does not despise anyone. Acceptance of persons is contrary to the law, and we cannot go against the covenant.

Jesus wants to bring his message of salvation to all peoples. The Lord puts his saliva on the tongue of the deaf and stuttering man to cure him. Then Jesus gives an order in Aramaic “open up,” with which he restores health to the sick man. Like God at the beginning of creation, Jesus is praised by the crowd as the one who does everything well.
