Saint Clare of Assisi, August 11th

Inspired and guided by Saint Francis of Assisi, she lived the Gospel of Christ, and in the Church of San Damián she was the first abbess of the Clare Sisters of the Poor. She was also the first woman in the history of the Church who composed a "Written Rule" with papal approval, so that the Franciscan charism would be preserved in all Franciscan communities (year 1253).

Her life, her example, her devotion, her patience in the face of suffering and illness, as well as her miracles are signs of the heroic living of the evangelical virtues.

She repeated: "Since I dedicated myself to thinking and meditating on the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ, pain and suffering no longer discourage me, but rather comfort me."
