St. Luke Evangelist October 18th

sandraalvaradocsm

On October 18, we celebrate Saint Luke the Evangelist, author of the gospel that bears his name and of the Acts of the Apostles. Saint Luke wrote many passages about the life of the Virgin Mary. This is explained by the closeness that Saint Luke had with the Apostle Saint John who took charge of the Mother of Jesus, just as Christ requested on the Cross.

Saint Luke was a disciple of Saint Paul. It is said that he was a doctor. Lucas was an educated and widely cultured man. In his gospel, Saint Luke refers to those who suffer in body or soul, especially the poor and repentant sinners. He is represented with a book in his hands, next to a bull because he begins by talking about Zacharias' sacrifice to God and the bull is the symbol of sacrifice.
