Today the gospel tells us of Jesus' love for each one of us. When we correspond to that love that Christ offers us then the desire arises within us to change and to be better people, better human beings. We can say that Christianity is the religion of love. Because basically what unites us is the love we have received from God. This is what you need to understand when Jesus says, "if you love me, you will keep my commandments." Keeping the commandments does not mean an obligation but a way of corresponding to the love we have received from God.
God grants us His Spirit of Love. When we read the Bible in faith, we perceive the Word as the true Word of God. When we celebrate the Eucharist with devotion, we feel that we are in a real relationship with Christ and, despite our weaknesses, we understand the truth of the commandment of love when we feel loved despite our offenses, thus we understand that the love of God saves us . Let us receive the grace of his love, let us open our hearts to God to make the words of Jesus come true: "whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him."
If we accept Jesus Christ in our hearts, keep his commandments, and trust his Spirit, we have nothing to fear when it comes to doing good. Only he who receives the love of Christ will be able to respond to evil with good, to curses with blessings, to slander with good conduct. Loving Christ means living according to his Word and according to his example.
