FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT

We are still in the season of Lent, almost reaching the desired goal, with our eyes fixed on a single hope: Easter... the resurrection of Jesus, our own resurrection.

Today the Gospel speaks to us of God's mercy that transforms and regenerates human life. God's peace generates peace in our fraternal relationships.

The parable of the Prodigal Son (or the Merciful Father) can be reread as the paradox of the brothers. The Christian life is not an opposition between children, but fraternal communion: The eldest and the youngest of the children walk together again. The eldest represents effort, fidelity and service. The minor represents grace, conversion, and mercy. Those who have returned and those who have never left must be reconciled and continue to live in communion with the Father. Lent wants to lead us to be reconciled with God and also with the Church which is our ecclesial family.
