One of the central themes in catechism classes is the 10 commandments. Memorizing them is important, remembering them in order from 1 to 10. However, even more important than knowing them by heart is practicing them, fulfilling them in everyday life. This is where many of us fail.
When Jesus is asked the question: “What is the greatest commandment of the Law?” Jesus answers: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The entire Law and the Prophets depend on these two commandments. If you do not remember the ten commandments in order, remember these two that Jesus has taught us. Loving is the key to fulfilling them; to commit ourselves to living according to God's law.
