What does the Word of God tell us this Sunday? April 28th, 2024

Fr. Claudio

This Fifth Sunday of Easter, a month after having celebrated and lived the central mystery of our faith... The liturgy invites us to remain united to the Lord, nourishing ourselves with his Word and his Life (his sap), to bear abundant fruits as a leafy vine, like the branches of the parable... that is, like true disciples.Saint John the Evangelist motivates us to such a permanence with the Risen Lord that he is capable of reproducing works of love, like the juicy fruit of the Vine cared for and protected by God himself, who is the vinedresser. It is a permanence that goes beyond the affective and emotional... It is a practical and effective permanence based on the intimate communion of life.

Remaining in Christ, like the branch to the vine, also implies submitting to the scissors of God who prunes in us everything that prevents growth, flowering and the production of fruit. Being stable in the disciple-teacher relationship does not mean being still without modifying anything, but rather it means getting involved, committing and persevering in faith, hope and love for God and neighbor.
