"Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."
In the first reading, Joshua challenges his people and asks them to decide who to believe in, whether in the God of Israel or in other gods. They cannot believe only for convenience, choosing one or another according to the convenience of each one.
Also in today's Gospel (Jn 6:60-69), Jesus confronts his disciples with direct words. Many abandon him. Peter, apparently speaking on behalf of all the apostles, expresses his firm faith in the Lord saying: "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."
Sooner or later, we all find ourselves faced with the dilemma of confirming our faith and committing to live according to Christian principles and values. Many of us drift away, others become disillusioned with faith and churches or religions. But when our faith is in crisis, we can also consciously renew our choice and say: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You alone have the words of eternal life.”
