What does the Word of God tell us this Sunday? February 9

Fr. Tarcisio

Who is or who should be the Christian in the world?

The biblical readings this Sunday give us an idea of how we can answer this question. In the first reading Isaiah tells us that God is close to the one who has faith and will illuminate him with his light to help those in need. Therefore, everyone who shares his bread with the hungry, opens his house to the poor, homeless, dresses the naked and does not turn his back on his brother, shines and illuminates ...

The gospel tells us that the Christian must be like the salt that purifies and preserves, that gives flavor; but it must also be light that drives away darkness. This Christian identity is not based solely on eloquent speeches or beautiful words, as the apostle Paul mentions in the letter to the Corinthians, but on the good example of life.

How can I know if I am a good Christian? If I give up oppressing others and avoid any threatening gesture or offensive word; If I share the bread with the hungry and help the needs of the humiliated. Without sunlight, the world goes dark and we cannot orient ourselves or enjoy life in the midst of darkness. The disciples of Jesus can bring the light we need to guide us, explore into the ultimate meaning of existence and walk with hope.
