World Day of the Sick

On February 11th, the World Day of the Sick will be celebrated and this year the theme of reflection is based on the words of Jesus: «Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.» (Mt 11,28). These words express the solidarity Jesus Christ, before an afflicted and suffering humanity. Many people suffer in the body and spirit! Jesus directs an invitation to the sick and the oppressed, to the poor who know they are completely dependent on God and who, hurt by the burden of proof, need to be healed.

On this occasion of this day of prayer for the sick, in our community of Saint Matthew, we want to ask God for all those who give relief to the sick brothers through the service of health workers, doctors, nurses, health and administrative staff, auxiliaries and volunteers who work making the presence of Christ felt, who offers comfort and takes care of the sick person healing their wounds.

As baptized, we have spiritual help through the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. With this sacrament those helped are those who suffer from a disease to accept the suffering together with Jesus Christ, implying not only a physical but also a spiritual healing, since it grants the forgiveness of sins.
