“Hope does not disappoint”; (Rom 5:5) and makes us strong in tribulation.
This phrase from St. Paul's letter to the Romans has been taken as a point of reflection for the World Day of the Sick that is celebrated on February 11th, in the context of the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, to sensitize communities to the need to care for the sick.
St. Paul begins chapter 5 by speaking of JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH, that is, “we are at peace with God through Jesus Christ,” because we believe in him. And so, we rejoice, even in the midst of tribulations and trials; because tribulations produce perseverance, perseverance produces virtue, and virtue produces hope.
Thus, the disease is not only faced with resignation, thinking: “I have already had the disease and I can
do nothing,” but the disease must be faced with perseverance and hope. Doing our part to be physically and spiritually healthy. And to move forward, with hope, from all our tribulations.
