The World Day of the Sick is celebrated every year on the occasion of the liturgical memory of the Virgin of Lourdes. The proposed theme for this year is: "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful." (Lk 6,36).
Here at Saint Matthew, we have proposed to be by the side of those who suffer from illness to accompany them with prayer and serve them with the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick and strengthen them with Holy Communion. At the same time, we pray for those who care for them.
Let us remember that closeness to the sick is everyone's task; visiting the sick is an invitation that Christ extends to all his disciples. How many sick and elderly people live in their homes and wait for a visit! The accompaniment is the responsibility of every baptized person, aware of the word of Jesus: “I was sick, and you visited me” (Mt 25:36)
